CAM00618My name is Nathan and I’m a Polish language learner from the UK. On this page, you’ll find all of the information that you need to get started learning Polish.

After starting in late 2015, I became conversationally fluent in Polish in a matter of months. Crazy, right? By mid-2016, I was able to enjoy a short trip to Kraków without using English whatsoever. On, I share the methods that I used to achieve such remarkable results in such a short space of time so that you can do the same.

What do I mean by “conversationally fluent”? I was able to have basic conversations in Polish on a variety of topics whilst making some mistakes. I could understand the gist of what was being said to me and deal with most common situations.

This is what I sounded like back in 2016…

I think I’m a lot better at speaking now. In early 2017, one of the registrars in Kraków told me that my Polish was already good enough for me to work in Poland!

That said, I rarely speak Polish and rarely record myself speaking Polish because I don’t want you to measure yourself against me. I’m lazy. In fact, I’m so lazy…

I reached that level with less than 20 minutes a day of effort!

I didn’t even have a real plan. You can do much better. You can also do it quicker than I did by learning from my mistakes.

To help you out, here’s my method in three simple steps..

  1. A.I.M (Anki, Immersion and Motivation)
  2. F.I.R.E (Flashcards, Input and Regular Exposure)
  3. S.P.E.A.K (Speaking, Persistence, Entertainment, Amendment, Kraków)

I go into my method in more detail elsewhere on the site. Although you might see the word “Kraków” mentioned in the third step, you don’t have to actually go to Kraków! In fact…

You don’t have to set foot in Poland to learn how to speak Polish!

I learned how to speak Polish without living in Poland and on I’ll show you how you can do the same.

Since you’re new to this, some clear instructions on what to do first might be useful.

Your first steps…

  1. Sign up to my mailing list for tried and tested tips to help you learn Polish. Not only will you receive my free ebook “Ten Tips To Instantly Improve Your Polish”, but you’ll also automatically receive my free five-day email course to get you started. Sign up here:

  3. Find someone to practise your Polish with – even if you already know a Polish native speaker. I know a great website which has hundreds of Polish people on it who are just waiting to help you. If you follow my method, I’ll give you my referral link. The website is completely free, but if you sign up with my referral link and book a lesson with one of the range of inexpensive teachers, we’ll both get some free credits to spend on another lesson! You can get Polish lessons on there for less than the cost of a cup of coffee. (I should know since I’m a tutor on there myself, teaching people English for absolute peanuts!) If you can’t currently afford a cappuccino, there is a free alternative to lessons on the site too: Conversation exchanges. This is the route that I took, but in hindsight, I’d only recommend it to learners who were at an intermediate level or higher. (Having said that, I did them as a beginner and survived, so there’s no reason why you couldn’t too.) Conversation exchange partners are not Polish teachers, but they are native speakers. They may not have teaching experience, but they’d be happy to help you learn Polish, providing you help them learn your native language. The only cost is your time. There are pros and cons to going down either route. If you’re undecided, try both. Either way, make sure you don’t miss out on a free lesson by signing up with my referral link. I’ll give you information on how to do that in due course.

Those are the first three steps that I recommend. Next, I would dive into and absorb everything that I could. However…

This site has a lot of content!

A lot of it has been created by me, so I probably know my way around it better than you do. As has grown bigger and bigger, it has become harder and harder to navigate. To make things a bit easier, here are the three most popular pages which you absolutely, positively must read:

  1. My resources page. If you want to learn how to speak Polish, everything that you need to do it is on this page – apart from natives to practise with, that is. (Don’t worry, I will help you find a native to practise with too!) Click here for resources to help you learn Polish

  2. “10 Top Tips: How To Actually Speak Amazing Polish.” In this post, 10 Polish language learners share their top tips for learning how to speak Polish. (Number 3 is my favourite.)
  3. My method page. I’ve written out my method for you in painstaking detail, so that you can follow in my footsteps. It worked for me and I have no doubt that it will work for you too.

You are no doubt going to have questions and comments along the way. That’s OK. In fact, it’s welcomed. First though, we need to get one thing straight…

If you need help, I will help you!

If you have a question you’d like to ask me or a comment you’d like to share, send me an email using the contact form. Sure, I might be busy. Sure, I might even be asleep. But…the one thing to be sure of is that I will always do my best to reply.

I’ll be honest: I’m not very good at promoting this website which is why it took you so long to find it. I’ve been largely relying on a karma system. I provide you with lots of valuable content in the hope that you’ll pass it on to others who can also benefit.

An easy way that both you and the website can benefit is by you posting a quick status or tweet to your friends and followers. Tell them that you’re learning Polish with and that when they see you they should ask you how you’re doing. This creates accountability for you and spreads awareness of the website at the same time. It’s a win-win situation, you’ll have a whole team of supporters, and best of all…

It costs you absolutely nothing!

One of your friends or followers may also want to learn Polish…or know someone that does. Until you send that message, you never know who might be missing out.

If you’re not on Facebook or Twitter, you can always send an email to friends or colleagues instead.

Speaking of email, if you haven’t signed up already, here’s another reminder to sign up to my free five-day email course. It’s full of useful tricks and tips…and…best of all…

It’s completely free!

Finally, I just want to remind you that I am an actual human being and I do genuinely want to help you. I certainly wouldn’t have spent my evenings and weekends working on this website if I didn’t. Please do not hesitate to get in touch. I’d love to know how else I can support you. Remember, I was in your shoes once. I get it.

I also want to hear your story. I’m sure it would make a great guest post on the site! If we all share our experiences of learning Polish, then we can all learn and grow together – and that means me too!

I’m serious about that guest post, by the way. If you have a story, resource or technique to share with Polish learners around the world, drop me a message via the contact form. I’d love to hear from you…and…I’m sure that other learners would too.
